Case Knife Care Guide
Knife Care & Maintenance
A quality knife can last for generations if it is properly cared for. Whether you carry your knife every day or keep it in a collection, following these simple tips will help protect your investment.
Keep Your Knife Clean
After each use, wipe the blade clean with a soft cloth. If your knife becomes dirty, wash it with warm water and mild soap. Dry it completely before putting it away.
Never leave your knife wet. Moisture can cause rust and staining, even on stainless steel.
Oil the Joints
For traditional pocket knives with slip joints, place one or two drops of quality knife oil in the pivot area every few months, or more often if the knife is used regularly. Open and close the blade several times to distribute the oil.
Protect the Blade
Apply a light coat of oil to carbon steel blades to prevent rust. Stainless steel resists corrosion better but still benefits from occasional oiling.
Sharpen When Needed
A sharp knife is safer than a dull one. Use a quality sharpening stone or guided sharpening system and maintain the factory edge whenever possible.
Store Properly
Store knives in a cool, dry place. Avoid leather sheaths for long-term storage because leather can trap moisture and cause corrosion.
Avoid Abuse
Pocket knives are cutting tools—not pry bars, screwdrivers, chisels, or hammers. Using a knife for anything other than cutting can damage the blade, handle, or lock.
Handle Materials
Natural handle materials such as bone, stag, and wood may change slightly over time. Avoid prolonged exposure to excessive heat, direct sunlight, and moisture to help preserve their appearance.
Caring for Case Knives
Case knives are built to be used and passed down through generations. Regular cleaning, proper lubrication, and careful storage will keep your Case knife working smoothly for years to come.
